Love of Africa Dance Team
Love of Africa Dance Team was born after Ghanaian choreographer and full-time dance teacher, Kwadjo Bediako, noticed a set of eager dance students in the Bronx who embodied the principles of Adinkra symbols in their everyday lives and in their dance practice.
Adinkra are visual symbols that represent concepts, proverbs, and aphorisms. Gye Nyame (Except God), Abusua Pa (Good family), and Akoma Ntoaso (Joining of hearts) serve as the guiding principles for our members, as we train in a plethora of African dance styles including Amapiano, Azonto, Coupé Décalé, Kuduro, Ndombolo, Nigerian Street Style, and Sbujwa.
We are a youth performance dance team, placing emphasis on community-centered dance training, elite afro dance technique, and meaningful dance artist development. Love of Africa Dance Team currently trains at The Urban Assembly for Global Commerce on Fridays from 6:30 P.M. to 8:15 P.M., and on Saturdays, from 11:00 A.M. to 4:15 P.M.
